About Eleanor Roosevelt rose from a tragic childhood to become a key actor behind – and sometimes ahead of! – her husband Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s presidency. As delegate to the United Nations in 1945, she helped draft the historic Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She fought for civil rights, transformed the role of First Lady, and pushed forward the position of women in society and leadership.

Did you know? Roosevelt hosted regular radio programmes, which was highly unusual for a First Lady at the time. The sponsored radio broadcasts had names like “It’s A Woman’s World”, and she donated all profits to charity.
